This week was okay I guess. I did not really do much. It was
also a super duper long week. I did nothing exciting during the week so I have
nothing to write about. I did go Christmas shopping though and got things for
my niece and cousins. My cousins got clothes and toys. My niece got cute doc
mcstuffins clothes. She loves that tv show. I also know for a fact my mother
got me this really nice make up set. It brings many different colored eye
shadows, eye liner, fake eye lashes and it also brings the little brush for the
eye shadow. It’s really cool.
I love music. I hope to become a musician some day or maybe a psychologist. I plan to be a double major. Two of my favorite classes are English and Guitar.

Weekly Review 12/15
This week went by extra slow. But then again, I did have a
lot of fun during the weekend. My family and I went to an 80’s party on Saturday
because it was my Uncle George and my Uncle Jeremy’s birthday. I dressed up
like a dancer with the legwarmers and mismatching tank tops. I also put my hair
up in a side ponytail since that was popular. Another thing that was popular
was crazy colorful makeup and I actually wore some. It was just a blast! I wish
we had more themed birthday parties then I’d go more often.

Weekly Review 12/8
This week was really long and boring. I didn't do much except homework and eat. I didn't get to sleep much anyways thanks to the amount of homework teachers give us. The only fun things i did during my week was, go to the movies and see my younger cousin get baptized at her church. The movie i saw was frozen and it was awesome! I went with my sister and her friends. She fell asleep during most of it so she missed out on the good parts. My cousin got baptized on a saturday which happened to be the same day as the movie. We had haystack as a lunch after the baptism. I never heard of it, but let me say it was delicious.

Weekly Review 12/1
This week was the best week ever
I only went to school for one day. One day! The rest of the week I just got to
chill and do some homework. I didn’t have much to do so most of the time I just
slept and was extremely lazy. I even got to see my little sister’s talent show.
They all sucked. It was just horrible. One of the worst shows I ever seen.
There were only a couple of great acts. The best day out the entire week was
obviously Thanksgiving! I ate so much I could have exploded!

Weekly review 11/24
This week was okay. It went by pretty fast which was the
best part. This weekend was great! My older sister came over with her daughter.
We had a ton of fun. We watched movies, baked cupcakes and took plenty of
pictures. Having them over was the greatest part of my entire week. I haven’t
seen them in a really long time. They slept over Saturday so the party
continues! I hope this upcoming week is just as fun. School is only two days
which is just fantastic! I don’t mean that in a sarcastic way. Well, good
weekend all in all.

Weekly review 11/10
This week was great! Mainly Sunday night. I went to a
concert with my best friend! We got to go see the feel this tour which
showcased Breathe Carolina, Issues, Our Last Night, and SLEEPING WITH SIRENS!!!
We waited in line, outside, in the bitter cold weather for five whole hours! It
was well worth it. Then we stood another 5 just too see the concert! We got
third row and it was spectacular! We almost got crushed, literally. We couldn’t
breathe because 1000’s of pounds of people were crushing us. After the concert
we got to have pictures and autographs with one of the bands. It was the best
night of my life.

Weekly review 11/3
My week was terrible. It was cold and rainy. The worst part
is Halloween was so close to being ruined. It was pouring outside and it was
ruining all of my plans. I was supposed to take my baby cousin trick or
treating but I couldn’t because it was raining too hard. Once the rain turned
into a light drizzle, we got into the car and went straight to the suburbs. The
rain stated up again so we had to walk in the rain with only one tiny umbrella.
Finally, the skies cleared and we got to enjoy our Halloween!

Weekly Review 10/20
This weekend my family and I went to a pumpkin patch. The
pumpkin patch was in Barrington, IL. It was Goeberts Farm. At first I thought
it was really childish but, it turned out to be really fun. My sister and I got
to ride a camel. We even got to pet and feed a baby kangaroo! There were so
many different animals at the patch. They had a small zebra, a water buffalo
and even giraffes! It was so cool. The pumpkins were so big! They even had one
called the Big Mac because it was just so ginormous!

Weekly Review 10/13
This week was the best week. It was spirit week so each day
we had a theme. I didn’t dress up most of the days but it was still extremely
fun. The week went by pretty quick which was the best part about it. During the
weekend, we had homecoming. It was a great night. I had a sleepover with two of
my close friends. We did facials, had crepes for breakfast and took tons of
pictures. My friend Bebe loves chilaquiles so my other friend’s mom made that for breakfast also. All in all, it
was one of the greatest weeks ever.

Weekly Review 10/6
During the weekend, I went to my
little cousin’s birthday party. His name is Jayden and he turned a year old.
The party was mainly for the little kids, but I did enjoy myself. My sister and
I worked on a piƱata that was shaped like a plane. It was extremely cute, yet
it didn’t go with his birthday theme. The theme was Super Why. We did a few
games and those little kids were very aggressive. I was pretty scared of them.
All in all the party turned out great and I could tell that Jayden enjoyed his
day.

Weekly Review 9/29
My week was okay, I guess. It went
by faster than all the other weeks. I didn't have much homework which was a
complete and utter miracle. I got to see a friend of mine play soccer. Well, I got
to see his school play. Varsity tied, 1 to 1. They aren't very great soccer
players so it was not as interesting as I thought it would be. My weekend was
pretty fun. I had a sleepover with my best friend. I’m actually writing this at
her house. All in all my week was fun and it went by pretty quick. Hopefully
next week is the same.

Weekly review 9/22
This week was pretty bad. I was sick the entire week and I missed
two days of school. The days that I did go to school were confusing. I missed
those one plus one equals two days, as my guitar teacher would say. I wouldn’t
say I’m behind, but I’m not exactly ahead of the class either. If I didn’t miss
those few days, I would be doing okay right now. I wouldn’t have to sort of
struggle to complete an assignment or test. This week would have been way
better, but thanks to Mother Nature and her change of weather, I became sick.

Weekly Review 9/15
This week was the slowest and longest week ever. The days
dragged on and on. I was staring at the clock inside the classrooms the entire
time. Each day felt like an eternity. I hate having a slow week because all I feel
like doing is going home and getting some sleep. During the week, I am deprived
of sleep so those two days at the end of the week are like heaven. Finally the
weekend is here and I can relax. I obviously still have tons of homework but
that doesn’t stop me from sleeping in. This week just sucked.

Grammar Lesson
Lesson: Pronouns and antecedents
Darivette Cruz
THE FACTS: A pronoun is a substitute for a noun. It refers to a person, place, feeling, or quality but doesn’t refer to it by name. An antecedent is the word, phrase, or clause to which a pronoun refers, understood by the context. A pronoun and antecedent have to agree in three ways.

- Person refers to the quality of being.
- Number is the quality that distinguishes between
singular and plural.
- Gender is the quality that distinguishes the entities as
masculine or feminine.
WHY IT'S CONFUSING: Pronouns and antecedents
can be confusing because there can be words between them.
HOW TO REMEMBER: The best way to remember is to keep the pronouns and antecedents near each other.
Pick the correct pronoun/antecedent and review orally in class:
1. The china has lost some of (its, their) luster.
2. A person needs to see (his or her, their) dentist twice a year.
3. Each of these companies had (its, their) books audited.
Try these on your own, then ask the teacher or a friend to review:
1. All of the players liked (their, his or her) coach.
2. These puppies still belong with (his or her, their) mother.
3. Somebody dropped (his or her, their) wallet.
Finally, try these for homework.
1. Nobody broke (his or her, their) promise.
2. Rick or Devin brought (his or her, their) guitar.
3. Most dogs are loyal to (his or her, their) owner.

New place, New views.
As my family and I drive up to our new apartment I notice most of the lawns
don’t look very well cared for. I assume the people here don’t care much about the
appearance of their front yards. As we walk to our backyard, plants from our
neighbor’s yard are poking through the fence into our yard. By the looks of it, our
neighbor really enjoys to garden.
The grass in our backyard has been cut at our request. Our picnic table is a
different story. The paint and wood look like they are chipping away. It looks worn
down and is an eyesore. My family and I decide to take a look into our garage. The
roof is caving in slightly which indicates the landlord has not had a chance to fix it.
After the garage we go out into the alley.
The alley is not overflowing with garbage, which is surprising. Our
neighbors are clean enough to keep their trash in their own cans. Some of the garage
doors have graffiti scrawled across them. Gang members must live around here. We
have to keep an eye out for them. The gangs have no respect for other people’s
property. I hope they don’t tag our building.
Down the street there is a corner store. It holds many of the basic things we
need in a home; paper towels, soap, etc. There are many stores and restaurants. We
have plenty of places to go when we need to restock our pantry. We won’t have to
travel far to get what we need.
There is also a high school which holds a diverse group of students. Some of
the students throw up gang signs which signals they belong to a crew or they are
trying to become a part of one. The school actually has a bad reputation. When I
walk by, the teenagers give me dirty looks and even try to talk me into a fight.
We also have a park near us. When we arrive at the park, kids are running
around everywhere. One girl even comes up to me and says, “What’s your name? I’m
Sarah.
“My name is Darivette.”
“Would you like to play with me?”
“No, thank you.”
“Why won’t you play with me?”
“I have to leave the park soon.”
After that, the little girl runs off. This seems to be the only safe
place in our neighborhood. No gangs, no crazy teens. There is only the peaceful
frolicking of little children.
My first night at our apartment seems to be calm. That doesn’t last very long.
Soon enough we hear loud yelling and the traffic noise down the street. I’m
pretty sure there is even a loud popping sound. My neighborhood is safe at times,
but not always.
In the morning, our neighbors finally start to come out and welcome us. The
people who live on either side of us seem like the kindest ones. They don’t have a
mean look on their faces or any children that belong to a gang. They are also the
only ones who take the time to actually give us a real welcome. Our neighbors are
pretty old. This is probably a big reason as to why they are so kind. I guess we have
to get use to the fact that our neighborhood isn’t a united community.

Weekly Review 9/8
This week I had my first paper due
in English class. It was actually the only paper I have had to work on since
school has started. The paper was on my neighborhood. I struggled to write it
because it had to be as if I first moved in. I could barely remember that day,
so I just tried to put in whatever bits and pieces I could actually recall from
that day. This paper was the highlight
of my week. Obviously, I am being sarcastic but in all honesty it wasn’t too
bad. I could have had something worse to do for a paper.
